My story
The Obermair farm is located in Vertigen, above the sunny village of Parcines. From up here the view stretches down to the spa town of Merano in the distance. Stefan Auer is now the third generation of the family here and he runs the farm alongside his father. "Nowadays we are organic certified and we farm this way because that's what we believe in." The range of varieties – Idared, Jonagold, Golden Delicious, Braeburn, Fuji, Pinova and Red Delicious – is very demanding in terms of farming inputs. Stefan is passionate about the different needs of each of the individual varieties. And he can talk knowledgeably thanks to his solid grounding at the South Tyrol technical college for fruit production, viticulture and horticulture in Laimburg. "Thinking about natural interrelationships convinced me in my decision to become an organic farmer, and the quality of my apples today justifies my choice." What's more, it is not just organic apples which feel at home in this sunny location among the chestnut groves around Vertigen. The Obermair farm also has holiday apartments which attract many regular guests, some of whom have been coming back for 30 years. Real goodness gets noticed.
