My story
Christian Gamper's farm is in Plars, which is a small village in between the high mountains of the Texel Group nature park on one side and the Mediterranean spa town of Merano on the other. Christian manages this traditional South Tyrol heritage estate alongside his family. He especially relies on his daughter's skillful hands. This is just as well, because the wide range of varieties which prosper on his farm require a lot of manual input. He spent several years gaining comprehensive training at the Laimburg technical college for fruit production, viticulture and horticulture in South Tyrol, which stood him in good stead in his work as an organic grower. He converted the farm in 1999. It was a logical decision for him: "anyone who wants to live with nature must respect it. The best way of doing this is by gaining organic certification." These days his work does not just win over health-conscious connoisseurs. The family-run Oberanger farm house also takes in guests who can experience organic apple growing first hand between Easter and November.
