My story
Raingut farm is steeped in tradition and perched on a mountain slope in Morter near the village of Laces. It has been in the Graiss family for generations and they converted to organic farming back in the 1970s. "My father was one of the first in the Val Venosta", explains Wolfgang, who studied agriculture in Vienna and has been running the farm since 2004. "He won a lot of awards for it." Wolfgang is now quality manager at the VIP.
He loves his job, but the time away from the office in the orchards is pure enjoyment. He particularly likes watering the trees as the Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Gala, Red Delicious, Topaz, Jazz, Pinova and Val Venosta apricots are ripening.
The sunny hillside location needs a lot of moisture. The farm is a proper real paradise with berries, pears, figs, lettuce, beans and squashes all growing in the garden. The stables, barn, horse and sheep complete the idyllic scene. Organic farming is key to Wolfgang's attitude to life. He grew up with it and his own take on it is about giving something personal back to improve the environment.
