My story
In the meantimeFlorian Gurschler‘slife has become a bit quieter: He passed on theHaslerhof farm inherited from his father to his son Thomas. Organic producer Florian just manages one orchard to have a meaningful task as a pensioner: And so he can often be found in his apple orchard in Stava, a part of the municipality of Naturno with view of Juval Castle. His former job has become his hobbyand he mainly manages the work in the apple orchard alone: „I needThomas’ help only when it comes to bureaucracy that includes business documentation,“ smiles Florian Gurschler. And during the harvest he can rely on the help of his family and of seasonal workers to pick the aromatic red and yellow apple varieties. The Gurschler family converted to organic in 2011 when they bought an apple orchard managed according to organic guidelines. „Then we decided to continue with organic production. Today I’m glad we did because organic or sustainable productionis to the benefit of the environment,“ says the experienced apple producer. Cutting and forming apple trees in winter is among his favorite works: He cut trees with other apple producers for some time, analyzing different ways of cutting and developing his own way of cutting: „You can watch the development of the tree and then you form it,“explains Florian. The apple trees in his orchard are already older and no longer need all the care that is necessary in a newly planted apple orchard.
