My story
Our huge step to cultivate orchards organically only occurred in 2018 when my partner Anna and me took over orchards next to the Cengles forest fen near the bicycle path. We are firmly convinced that organic production was the right decision. We are both used to working at our parents’ farm and are both trained well: I attended the Fürstenburg agricultural college in Burgusio and Anna graduated from the agricultural high school in Ora. It’s a big challenge that we would like to master day after day.
We want to produce our Gala and Idared apples and our apricots sustainably. This means a lot of additional work such as building stone walls for insects and making sowings to promote bees. As far as fertilization is concerned, we prefer our own organic fertilizer from our parents’ cows.
It’s important for us to continue in this new direction with full commitment, great enthusiasm and full conviction. Every beginning is hard but we are able to fulfil our long-cherished organic dream step by step. Work is fun as we have to face new challenges again and again. We try to do as much as possible ourselves: building the framework, laying the irrigation system, planting trees and everything that goes along with it.
We all pull together and move in the same direction: organic. So we never lose our bearings and feel in harmony with nature.
