My story
Count von Trapp and his family live in Castel Coira, high above the village of Sluderno on the western flank of the Monte Sole Mountain in Val Venosta. Franz-Josef Innerhofer rents the orchards which surround the castle. He is extremely close to nature and has been farming organic apples here since 1998 according to biodynamic and anthroposophic principles. "It is a different type of agriculture, and I can use it to bring about positive changes. Healthy food is just the end of the chain for me. It all starts with deciding how to use the landscape, and it goes on with improving soil fertility and the result is increased ecological diversity." Franz-Josef's secondary education was at a business and commerce high school, and his view is that organics mean a better quality of life. And the evidence is visible: his orchards are surrounded by mixed hedgerows next to walnut and pear trees. A pond ripples peacefully in the background. Visitors – and Franz-Josef includes both animals and people in this definition – find many pleasant spots to while away the time here. The many beneficial fauna feel at home and have Franz-Josef to thank for it. His sentiments entirely.
