My story
Mairhof farm has been in the Pircher family from Covelano for over a hundred years. Hartmann Pircher runs it with his parents and his three sisters. The Tramontana Mountain is home to Europe's highest marble quarry and here, at its foot, there are particularly good growing conditions for apple farming.
Hartmann Pircher's orchards are on the edge of the Stelvio Pass nature park and Golden Delicious, Pinova, Jonagold, Red Delicious, Kanzi and Braeburn varieties all ripen here in the mountain air, which noticeably brings the coolness of the peaks down to the valley in the evenings.
Hartmann's father already converted the farm to organics back in 2000. Even then Hartmann supported the decision and was convinced it was right. These days he stresses that production methods which are close to nature are the only way to take on the future. For Hartmann, organics mean a lot more than just tasting better. It is about the interaction between man and nature which makes the products so valuable.
