My story
I manage our organic farm together with my father Kurt but my grandmother still has a lot to say, too. She is concentrated knowledge with the right maturity. My grandfather always had a good piece of advice as well. His head was full of projects – just as my father’s is. Many of them have already been realized and I would like to continue that way.
The conversion to organic production was a wonderful and forward-looking step. I see it as a great honor that I could take it as a representative of the third generation. I was able to turn my hobby into my job, which not everybody can say. My wife Tamara comes from a dairy farm and she has already successfully modeled for a well-known yoghurt producer. I hope that our daughter Greta will be on the labels of Val Venosta’s organic apples one day. She is lucky enough to spend her childhood at a farm where she can become friends with many allies that are waiting for her: ladybirds, parasitoid Aphelinus mali wesps, earwigs and different birds. She doesn’t know yet that these animals help her parents a lot but the day will come when she’s old enough to understand it.
For me, organic is a chance to realize my ancestors’ dreams in future. I would like to make careful and small steps, just as small as those of my daughter Greta. Then I play it safe and don’t demand too much of myself. Our next „Waalhof“ project is an agritourism business managed by my wife and my daughter Greta who will get our future guests enthusiastic about organic production – step by step and with children's eyes. I’m sure about that.
