My story
The Rechenmacher farm is in the quiet village of Morter at the mouth of the Val Martello. Herbert Rechenmacher inherited the estate from his mother, but learnt how to farm from his father. He looks after his orchards for the whole year round and only asks for his family's help at harvest time. Herbert is one of those talented people who can turn their hand to anything. Before, he was the village postman. He loved working in nature and before long he realised that his passions were sculpting and carving. He attended the higher technical institute in Innsbruck, and art and creativity still motivate him just as much as his orchards. Herbert says that nature is where he feels free. That is the reason why he chose to move to organic farming in 1998. It always seemed to him to be the right way to do things. He sees organics as an all-encompassing movement which starts with production in partnership with nature, and ends with a more enlightened form of individual consumption. Responsibility matters, "because I will pass on what I have received and in the meantime I will go on living in harmony with everything."
