My story
The "Soyreit-Hof" in Val Martello was mentioned in a document in 1667. Today our farm is an organic herb farm specialising in the cultivation and marketing of a wide variety of mountain herbs and flowers. Self-gathered wild herbs complement the special, even rebellious tea blends. The currants which are rich in vitamin C, have also been grown for years at the "Soyreit-Hof" according to organic guidelines.
When my uncle gave me the apple orchards in Silandro the main town of Val Venosta in 2014, I knew immediately that I wanted to cultivate them according to organic guidelines in the future. However I first had to convince my uncle which fortunately, I managed to do quite quickly. Today the time has come and the varieties Bonita and Golden Delicious are growing there with strong flowering strips between the rows of apple trees. In addition to a variety of wild herbs, mallow also grows in the flowering strip. For many people it is just another weed but for me, it is a valuable medicinal plant that I have been cultivating in my fields in Val Martello for many years. As a medicinal herb containing mucilage, it works wonders against flu-like infections and inflammation of the throat and is therefore a fixed component of our fine tea assortment "made in Val Venosta".
I cultivate the apple orchards in Silandro with the help of my family. I do the work of shortening branches, pruning and harvesting with my uncle or with the help of my mother, partner and relatives. My little daughter Marie is always with us, curiously looking over our shoulders as we go through the various steps. Kurt, an organic farmer friend of ours only helps us with plant protection.
After years of experience in cultivating and refining fine tea herbs, it is now a great pleasure to pursue sustainable agriculture with tasty organic apples. If you carry "nature in your heart", it was a must to also convert the fruit growing to organic and also gradually the varieties. I am very happy to have taken this step shortly after taking over the orchards. On the one hand, this is the only way for the next generation to grow up with this promising attitude, it opens up new possibilities for them to continue to survive as a small, sustainable farm.
Under the protection of the glaciated peaks of the Ortler Group in the the Stelvio National Park, mountain herbs, mountain strawberries and mountain apples are in good hands and benefit together from the unique climatic conditions in the alpine Val Venosta. Nature's clock ticks a little slower here than elsewhere, as it fine-tunes harvests with loving precision that want to shine above all in terms of taste. Without letting itself get unnecessarily rattled.
