My story
I’ve managed my parents’ farm since 1990 but I only converted to organic in 2015, which I owe to my son Simon. I could learn a lot about this noble production method at his organic farm. And as we are directly below Taranto Castle between Naturno and Plaus, this noble production method suits us perfectly.
In 1946, my grandfather bought the agricultural land from the castle’s then landlords and owners and it has been owned by our family since then. But noblesse oblige. And we feel obliged to the principles of organic production. For me, organic is a synonym of better health, more biodiversity for flora and fauna, healthier soils and healthy products. We can thus assume more responsibility for future generations.
My whole family helps at the farm. We enjoy our work. Our seasonal workers rave about the fantastic view of the medieval castle and as soon as they learn more about organic production, they get sparkling eyes. It only takes a few weeks for them to understand that they can also benefit from varietal assortment and sustainable production. I regularly attend courses to stay updated. When I’m pruning trees, which is my favorite activity, I mentally review what I’ve learnt and then put it into practice. Noblesse oblige. Still today.
