My story
After a few decades of integrated production my father, my wife Astrid and me decided to convert to organic in 2015 and to produce organic apples of the following varieties: Gala, Elstar, Golden Delicious, Pinova, Red Delicious, Braeburn, Fuji, Granny Smith as well as the new Bonita variety.
I prefer resistant varieties because they are less susceptible to disease. Gala is among my favorite varieties. Every year, I feel the tension when harvest time approaches. I’m glad that my favorite variety is the first to be harvested in August. So my impatience has a relatively early end and I can later care about my other apple varieties together with harvest workers. We love our crunchy fruits and so do our guests.
Maybe our Neuwirtshof farm in Rablà near Merano is so popular with guests because they can taste “our” nature: sweet crunchy apples, fresh apple juice, dried fruit or vegetables. They see how we produce and understand the great challenges of organic farming and sustainable interference with nature. The more natural, the more delicious. We all benefit from that.
