My story
Thick natural stone walls, stone-framed doors and a historic wood-paneled stube: TheSchnatzhof is one of the oldest farmhouses of Silandro that was first mentioned in a document in 1390. BrunhildeSchöpfand her family have lived in thisheritage-protected farmhouse since 1988. Brunhildeinherited most of its agricultural areas from her father. She acquired further orchardsand thus enlarged her farm. Today, Brunhilderuns it together with her son Tobias who has worked on his parents’ farm after graduating from the agricultural school.
During the first years it wasn’t always easy for her as a female farmerto be part of it „but it didn't take long to start a good cooperation with the world of men,“smilesBrunhilde. She has mainly upskilled in the field of apple cultivation over the years buthas also learnt a lot from her practical experience in her apple orchards. Brunhilde and Tobias do most of the work alone. They only need help during very work-intensive periods. „The apple harvest is my favorite activity,“ saysBrunhilde. „Then I can see the result of a year's work.“ But she also likes new plantings „because I always enjoy seeing a well-tendedandmodern orchard.“
Brunhildesees the future in organic production: „Organic products are getting more and more popular as more and more people pay attention to a healthy diet. Above all, organic production allows you to work in harmony with nature.“ The Schöpffamily also use their apples to produce apple juice and apple vinegar for their own use and prepare healthy meals with the vegetables and herbs grown in their garden. They also have apricots.Brunhildeuses them to prepare a delicious jam to sweeten the arrivalof the guests of the cozy apartments of the Schnatzhoffarm.
