My story
Our farm is situated in the center of Silandro and is under monumental protection. The baroque Schlandersburg Castle is directly next to it. In the past, it was a noble residence whose owners also owned the surrounding lands and farms.
When my son Franz and me drive to the orchards nearby, we pass by a sundial on the western wall of Schlandersburg Castle that has worked for centuries without a sound. This simple timekeeper from the Renaissance somehow always reminds me of an important date for our family. In 2015, we decided to convert to organic. It’s our very own renaissance. No matter if we produce apples, wine, chestnuts, potatoes, apple juice or apple vinegar…everything is organic. For me, organic also means that I do the right thing as far as environmental protection and sustainable agriculture is concerned.
When I enjoy my tasty Kanzi apples in autumn, I know that our ancestors weren’t so lucky: They had to give the majority of their harvest to their landlord, whereas we deliver the fruits of our work to our cooperative that we all own together. My son and me as well.
