My story
Roman Telser lives in Sluderno in the upper Val Venosta with his family. His apple orchards are close to the village, above which towers the well-preserved mediaeval Castel Coira. His father built the Kofel farm up and his parents and wife still give him all-round support to enable him to continue his job as a painter. Cows, pigs and chickens add lively colour to the farmyard, and organic apples thrive in the orchards. The siblings also help out at harvest time. It's the period in the working calendar which Roman likes best. He is still relieved though when his hand-picked delicacies arrive at the cooperative unharmed. He cares most about his organic apples. In 1997, Roman switched from livestock farming to fruit. At the same time, he chose to implement organic principles. His neighbour inspired him and Roman rose to the challenge. As an organic farmer, his main focus these days is on sustainability. "So that everything stays the way it is," he says.
