My story
Huter farm is at the entrance to the village of Silandro and has been in the same family for 150 years. Leonhard Wellenzohn is the farmer and he can manage most of the work by himself, but he relies on help from his wife, Gerda, and his son in busy periods. He grows Golden Delicious, Gala, Pinova, Red Delicious, Braeburn and Topaz apples, as well as vinifying three single-varietal, organic estate wines from Zweigelt, Pinot Noir and Solaris grapes. Leonhard says that harvest time in autumn is like receiving a school report which describes what went well and where there is room for improvement.
The Wellenzohns have been organic since 1994, which makes them pioneers in Silandro. "Organics" were a new challenge back then and the more Leonhard thought about them, the more he wanted to convert. He is now certain that he made the right move. Because he himself can feel the positive effect that organics have on people.
