My story
Unterhueb farm in Ciardes has long been owned by the Wielander family. Horst is the organic farmer here, and he trained at the South Tyrol technical college for fruit production, viticulture and horticulture. He manages the farm on his own, only needing the help of extra pairs of hands during picking and harvest. The sun-exposed topography at Unterhueb is ideal for organic farming. Golden Delicious, Gala, Braeburn and Red Delicious all thrive here and the kitchen garden contains vegetables and stone fruit for the family's consumption. Horst loves his work, especially pruning the apple trees in winter. That's how he gives them structure and controls their yield. It is also a time for him to concentrate completely on nature. When Horst converted to organics five years ago, he had many motivations, but his main one was fostering health, both on his own account and that of fellow human beings. These days he is proud of having made the move. Because the future will be healthy and close to nature, Horst is certain of it.
