My story
Our farm is situated at an altitude of 550 meters and we are Val Venosta’s first apple producer in geographical terms when coming from the east. When working in our orchards and vineyards we enjoy panoramic views of the spa town of Merano and Tyrol Castle. My wife Steffi and me manage the farm in the third generation. The surrounding forest offers some kind of protection, which is an advantage for both our production areas and different animals such as foxes, martens, badgers and buzzards.
We are very close to the town of Merano and at the same time in the middle of nature. Continuity is very important for us. We still use the pergola system in viticulture, for example, and mainly produce very traditional apple varieties. The sunny location of our farms offers us the opportunity to work with solar energy that is produced and stored on site. We both like mixing tradition with new knowledge and infected each other with our love for nature. My wife dreams of becoming a beekeeper. Until her dream comes true, she is happy to attract many diligent bees with her passion for flowers and herbs. Lavender, basil, bread clover, calendula flowers and many other plants are like magnets for bees that are simply indispensable for agriculture.
I press my own Sauvignon and Cabernet wines, whereas my tasty apples are stored and sold by the cooperative. We are specialized on what we can do best and on what we are convinced of. Organic is the right way for us. Others have pioneered it and we are grateful that we can today follow this way. We always have an ace up our sleeve here above the large and sunny Tel rift. Nature has meant it very well here where the Adige river falls down towards Merano.
