Beyond Biofach 2025: VIP’s organic vision between growth and innovation
From international networking to commercial planning: the Val Venosta Consortium sets the course for the future of organic apples.
The 2025 edition of Biofach, the leading trade fair for the organic food sector, has just taken place in Nuremberg, welcoming thousands of key players and stakeholders from across the globe.
VIP participated in the event, showcasing its organic apple offerings in the Bioland area, where it stands as the largest producer member.
Gerhard Eberhöfer, BIO Product Manager at the Consortium, explains: “For the leading player in the EU organic apple sector like VIP – the Consortium of Fruit and Vegetable Cooperatives of Val Venosta valley – attending Biofach is both a duty and a strategic choice. It is a key opportunity to strengthen our network and discuss the overall progress of the organic market”.
Target markets: Germany, Scandinavia, and Italy
The timing of the fair is ideal for planning the commercial strategy for the second half of the year, particularly in VIP’s key organic markets such as Germany, Scandinavia, and Italy. “Holding discussions with buyers from these countries is crucial, especially considering that some European production areas will struggle to meet domestic demand beyond April or May”, notes Eberhöfer.
A market in balance between supply and demand
The 2024/25 commercial season is performing well, thanks to a solid balance between supply and demand, supported by lower product availability in some of Europe’s key producing countries.
Eberhöfer explains: “After two challenging seasons in terms of returns for our member growers, we have seen a recovery since 2023, and we hope this trend will continue. The current strong price levels are essential not only to cope with rising production costs but also to continue investing in innovation, whether in production processes or in modernising machinery. This is the only way we can maintain our competitiveness while ensuring quality and efficiency across the entire supply chain”.
