Think about it for a minute. These simple and sometimes mundane statements in fact contain great truths. The secret for living well and healthily is undoubtedly an active life and a simple, balanced and varied diet.

3 tips for a fit and healthy life

Those who already practice sports know perfectly well how important a proper diet is because you can only be successful and get the necessary energy for your sports if you eat properly.

If you want to eat healthily, you have to pay attention to what you eat and in which quantities and combinations. Generally speaking, a healthy diet follows some general principles that are easy to apply for everybody and concretely help you to lead a better and fitter life.
You can immediately follow these simple rules:

1. 5 meals per day: 3 main meals and 2 snacks

The main meals are breakfast, lunch and dinner, whereas the snacks are taken in the middle of the morning and afternoon. If you eat 5 times a day, you always have an active metabolism and increase your calorie consumption even when resting. The main meals are based on your own specific needs, whereas fresh and seasonal fruit is often recommended for the snacks. A perfect fruit, for example, is the apple as it is rich in fibers, vitamins, antioxidant molecules and many other beneficial properties for our organism: There is a reason why everybody knows the popular saying: “An apple a day keeps your doctor away”. Moreover, apples are low in calories (about 52 kcal/100 g) and are ideal to become part of your daily diet. Apples are perfect for children and popular with young and old alike.

Apples are an excellent source of energy – especially for sporty people who want to recharge their batteries before their training without gaining weight. They are light, tasty and juicy and can be used in numerous ways… Just consider that apples are the fruits that are most consumed in Italy!

2. Always prefer seasonal fruit and vegetables

Talking about seasonality may be difficult, especially for the new generations who are used to get any kind of fruit and vegetables all around the year. We should learn to ask our trusted greengrocer for information or to research into this topic with the help of books, websites and blogs. As far as the origin is concerned, it is better to choose Italian products to be certain that the Italian standards are met.

3. Choose the sport that is best suited for you

However, your daily healthier eating habits should also be accompanied by a more active lifestyle. Don’t be deterred by the word “sports”: The secret is starting slowly and gradually and setting achievable goals so that you can motivate yourself to be sporty even after years without any movement. You can, for example, start by walking fast for at least 30 minutes per day before you proceed with slow jogging and later with running. Every kind of sports is fine as long as you like it and have fun. It is sometimes necessary to try out different sports until you can find the one for you. No matter if you choose fitness, Zumba, swimming, tennis, boxing, running or weight lifting – the only thing important is that you move yourself!
