Follow it through the valley and click through its most important stations from the east of Val Venosta to the national borders in the west to discover some of its secrets. Long live the king!
An apple conquers the world
An apple conquers the world
Are you ready for a small world tour? King Golden is not only popular in Val Venosta. Its good reputation reaches far into the desert and the icy North. This is why it is taken to many different countries. Most of our Golden apples are sold in the rest of Italy followed by Spain, Germany and – believe it or not – Egypt! But our Golden apples also travel to Norway, Finland, Saudi Arabia and Portugal to enchant people with their fine taste. A royal conqueror.
Your majesty in golden-red
Your majesty in golden-red
Have you ever noticed the seducing red cheeks of Golden apples? They are not the result of much sunshine in our valley, but are typical for mountain apples. Golden’s highest throne is in Lasa at an altitude of 1,170m above sea level where it is mild during the day and cool at night. The great range of temperatures between day and night result in the formation of many red pigments and the perfect development of aromas. This is where the sweet red cheek and the great taste come from. No wonder that everybody would like to bite into a Golden apple from Val Venosta…
…worldwide!
A life on different altitudes
A life on different altitudes
This is our first station. Val Venosta’s lowest Golden trees grow here in Parcines at an altitude of 513m above sea level. That’s interesting because King Golden also likes to take roots higher up in the mountains. But more about that later.
The different altitudes are something very special in Val Venosta and confer our Golden apples their delicious facets. Golden apples really feel at ease in Val Venosta.
Does that mean that they originally come from Val Venosta?
The king also began in a small way
The king also began in a small way
No, the Golden apple was not born in Val Venosta. Its ancestors are from America and it only came here in the middle of the 20th century. Fostered by diligent farmers and enchanted by Val Venosta, it decided to stay and began its conquest. Val Venosta’s oldest Golden trees are in Coldrano and in near Corzes. Today, there are 10,352,194 Golden trees in our valley. Because our king can’t get enough of Val Venosta’s wind and sunshine.
Speaking of sunshine. Is this the reason for the typical red cheek?
