Baked stuffed Gala apples

A rustic dessert with a deliciously crunchy heart

All the deliciousness of baked Gala apples envelops a crunchy, lightly spicy filling. A spoon dessert with the apple as the protagonist that is easy and fun to prepare. The crunchy filling with almonds, marzipan and oat flakes enhances its aroma and taste, whereas a pinch of cinnamon, vanilla and cardamom results in an irresistible scent. A sweet treat that is perfect for warming the tables even on the coldest days.

Ingredients

for 6 persons

for the apples
6 Gala apples
butter (to taste)
sugar (to taste)

for the filling
45 g almonds
50 g soft butter
70 g marzipan
45 g sugar
2 pinches of salt
40 g oat flakes
1/2 tsp. cinnamon powder
1/3 tsp. cardamom powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Preparation

For the apples
Wash the Gala apples, dry them and cut off the cap. Remove the core with an apple corer. Grease the apples with a little butter outside, pass them in sugar and place them in a baking dish.

For the filling
Coarsely chop the almonds. Put the butter in a bowl, add the chopped marzipan, sugar and salt. Blend with an electric whisk until creamy and homogeneous. Add the oat flakes, chopped almonds, cinnamon, cardamom and vanilla extract and whisk again.

Completion
Preheat the oven to 170°C (convection oven). Fill the apples with the marzipan and almond filling. Cover with the cap and bake in the oven for approx. 30 minutes. The baking time may vary depending on the apple variety you use and the apples’ ripeness. Pierce the apples with a fork to check if they are baked.
